How old is my Arcoaire furnace or air conditioner?
Arcoaire is the badge ICP puts on its rugged line, and its serials read like every other ICP brand. Skip the first letter. The next two digits are the year and the two after that are the week.
You won't find many guides that mention Arcoaire by name. It doesn't need special rules. International Comfort Products builds it on the same serial layout as Heil and Tempstar, so most Arcoaire plates decode in a few seconds.
Where to find the label on a Arcoaire furnace
For an Arcoaire furnace, the rating plate is inside the lower door that covers the blower, or on the cabinet just behind it. Switch the furnace off first. Some installs in tight closets leave little room; a phone held inside the opening and a flash photo works. On an Arcoaire condenser or heat pump, the plate is fixed to the outer cabinet near where the copper lines and power whip enter. No tools needed for either.
How to read the code
Skip character one, which only says which plant built it. Characters two and three: year (80 to 99 for the 1900s, 00 onward for the 2000s). Characters four and five: production week. The rest counts units off the line. An Arcoaire serial reading R8835 then five more digits would be week 35, 1988, around late August. The tool does the week-to-month step for you.
| Layout | What it means | Years used |
|---|---|---|
| P YY WW …… | Plant letter, year, week | 1988–2026 |

When the format changed
CPSC listed Arcoaire among the brands in ICP's 2005 packaged-unit recall and spelled out the serial pattern with an L00 41 example, built in the 41st week of 2000. That gives Arcoaire owners an official reference point even without a brand-specific guide. The tool skips older ICP-family labels that use a single year digit, numeric serials with a letter in the middle, or a leading Z. If yours is one of those, check for a printed date or the installation record.
Who makes Arcoaire
International Comfort Products, based in Lewisburg, Tennessee, is the builder, with Carrier as the parent since a 1999 acquisition. ICP markets Arcoaire as its tough, rugged line. The brand list on ICP's site puts it next to Heil, Tempstar, Comfortmaker, KeepRite, Airquest Comfort and Day and Night Comfort. Arcoaire is sold and installed by independent dealers.
How sure is this?
Widely documented. Arcoaire doesn't publish this code; it comes from recall notices, service literature and inspector references. We tested the icp rules against 15 serials, 5 of them with a date known from a recall notice, a printed label date or the maker. None decoded to a wrong year; codes whose year mark repeats show every possible reading. Always confirm with Arcoaire's warranty page before you spend money on the answer.
Quick notes
- If you cannot find an Arcoaire dealer nearby, a Heil or Tempstar dealer can usually service it; the equipment is closely related.
- Look for the No Hassle Replacement warranty paperwork; Arcoaire's higher tiers carry it, and it changes the repair math if a compressor or heat exchanger fails.
- Register within 90 days of installation for the 10-year parts term.
- Note both outdoor and indoor serials; they may be a few years apart if one was replaced.
Common questions
Who makes Arcoaire?
International Comfort Products, a Carrier subsidiary since 1999.
What does the R or L at the front of the serial mean?
It is a plant code. It does not change the date.
My Arcoaire serial starts with a number. Why won't it decode?
It may be an older ICP format or a different label, such as a coil or a component sticker. Find the main rating plate.
Is Arcoaire a budget brand?
ICP positions it as rugged equipment. Price depends far more on the model's efficiency and features than on the badge.
